Notice of the Fifth Bi-annual Review of the 2012 Tariff Orders for the Determination of Charges and Tariffs for Electricity Generation, Transmission and Distribution

In exercise of the powers conferred upon it by section 76(6) of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005 and all other powers enabling it in that behalf, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission adopted the Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO) methodology for electricity pricing in Nigeria, which sets out the basis and pricing principles and procedures for effecting minor and major reviews.

The MYTO provides 15-Year tariff path for the electricity industry, with minor reviews bi-annually in the light of changes in a limited number of parameters (specifically inflation, US Dollar exchange rate to Naira, natural gas price, available generation capacity and collection losses) and major reviews every 5 years, when all other inputs are reviewed with stakeholders.

Request for Comments on the Application Process for Connection to the Transmission System

Notice of Stakeholder Meeting on the ATC&C and Customer Number Validation Exercise of the Electricity Distribution Companies

In exercise of its powers under  Section 76 (6) of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005 and all other powers enabling it in that behalf, the Nigerian electricity Regulatory Commission adopted the Multi-year tariff Order (MYTO) methodology for electricity pricing in Nigeria, which sets out the basis and pricing principles and procedures to effect  minor and major review.

In the light of the above, Section 5.3 of the Multi-Year Tariff Order which provides for the Determination of the Cost of Electricity sold by Distribution/Retail Companies for the period 1st  June 2012 to  31st  May 2017, requires that given the urgency of the reform /privatization agenda and also having regard to the unreliable data from which aggregate losses are calculated, it became necessary for the distribution companies to carry out the ATC&C data base study and customer verification to determine the baseline losses during the 12 months preceding hand over to new owners, subject to the NERC’s revalidation and approval.

Invitation to a Public Hearing on the draft "Nigerian Electricity Supply and Installation Standards (NESIS) Regulations"

Pursuant to Section 98 of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has initiated the review of the two Regulations, S. I. 5 of 1996 “Electricity Act Electrical Installation Regulations” and S. I. 6 of 1996 “Electricity Supply Regulations” issued under the repealed Electricity Act.

The draft regulation was made public to stakeholders in June 2014. The process of public consultation will be concluded with a public hearing to discuss the draft regulations and all comments for consensus in line with the principles of NERC in ensuring transparency in regulating the power sector.

NERC Lowers Fixed Charge for Electricity Consumers

1.    In its mission to improve service delivery to consumers, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Friday, May 21 2014, approved the result of the minor review of the Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO).

2.    The major outcome and highlight of the review is indeed great news for consumers. Consumers have complained and agitated severally about Fixed Charge. NERC has listened attentively. And now consumers will pay a lower Fixed Charge.

Notice for 2012 Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) 2


Following consultations with various stakeholders across the country since September 2010, the Commission has approved the release of three separate Tariff Orders respectively for the Generation, Transmission and Distribution Sectors of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

These Orders have been duly approved by the Commission and they take effect from 1st June 2012 to 31st May 2017.
