Boma Ozobia

Boma is a founding Partner of Sterling Partnership, Nigeria. She served as the President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association 2011-2013, the first woman President in the over 50 year history of this association of lawyers from 54 countries.

Boma Ozobia She was on the Board of Trustees of the Royal Commonwealth Society and also served as the Chairwoman of the Association of Women Solicitors of England and Wales between 2005/2006. She serves on the advisory board of MN Capital Africa Advisers and was awarded the national honour of an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in September 2014.

Boma is a highly experienced Arbitrator and Commercial Mediator with a focus on addressing the real issues behind disputes to ensure that a commercially viable solution is achieved in conflict resolution. In addition to being an experienced Arbitrator and accredited Civil and Commercial Mediator, she specializes in International Tax Law, Maritime Law, Mergers & Acquisitions and Capital Market Transactions.

Over the years, Boma has advised on some of Nigeria’s leading commercial deals in a number of sectors including manufacturing, banking, hospitality, telecommunications, maritime, energy, project funding and development.
 

She has represented parties before the Administrative Panel Proceedings of the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Investment and Securities Tribunal, Administrative proceedings of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Committee Investigative Hearings of various National Assembly Committees, and before the superior courts, from the High Courts to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Her role as President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association involved extensive governmental and legislative relations both at the national and international levels including interfacing with commonwealth law ministers in various commonwealth jurisdictions.  
She was educated in England at Kings College, University of London where she obtained an LL.M in Maritime Law, and in Nigeria where she obtained an LL.B from Rivers State University of Science and Technology. She is admitted to practice law in Nigeria and in England & Wales.
