Dr. Steven Nder Andzenge is a thorough-bred attorney with a multidisciplinary background of education, training and experience spanning over 3 decades in both the private sector and public service.
Dr. Andzenge is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he obtained his first degree in Law in 1978. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1979 and at different times between 1980 and 1997 was engaged in very active private legal practice in prestigious law firms including SAM TSUMBA & CO, ANDZENGE & ASSOCIATES, KANU G. AGABI & ASSOCIATES where he was Associate Partner, Managing Partner and Partner respectively. He has extensive regulatory experience having served as Director Legal Services at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and also obtained a doctoral degree in Law and Regulation. He has received extensive training in regulatory matters both at home and abroad and executive education at Harvard, Northwestern, Cambridge universities, etc. Between 2002 and 2009, he was Annual Delegate to Global Symposium for Regulators and West African Telecoms Regulatory Assembly.
Dr. Andzenge is a Harvard-trained Leadership expert with broad-based leadership exposure. He has served at the Federal and State government levels in different capacities including directorship of parastatals and membership of committees on various projects. Some of the Presidential assignments undertaken by Dr. Andzenge include, Member, Presidential Policy Advisory Subcommittee (Judiciary & Legislature) in 1999; Member, Presidential Committee on Bitumen Project in 2000 for which he received written commendation from the President and Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.He is a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, (UK); American Bar Association; International Bar Association, Forum of African Regulators, etc.
In recognition of his tireless service to the nation at the State and Federal levels and by virtue of his outstanding contribution in telecommunications regulatory matters, he was conferred with the National Honour of MON, Member of the Order of the Niger in 2007 by the then President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Late Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, GCFR.
Dr. Andzenge brings on board at NERC a rich resume as a regulator and executive. He is currently the Commissioner in charge of Legal, Licensing and Enforcement.
